PS: Please Don't miss hubby's new toy, the windmill in our garden. Love em!
Looking at my herb garden at its peak, I thought I would post some recipes, tips and photos before the garden goes wild....... I do not profess to be a gardener but I love gardens and I love harvesting from my herb/vegetable garden. There is no dish cooked in my household without something from our garden. PS: Please Don't miss hubby's new toy, the windmill in our garden. Love em! The Inner CRITIC !!!! Eureka! wow, I recently recognised my Inner critic voice. It was empowering to reflect on its impact over time. A message to parents, you don't need to be perfect just be good enough. Did you know that the Inner critic develops in children at a very young age when the neural pathways in the brain are being formed? It can be best described as the blueprint of how your child develops in later years. Let's all break the cycle of the inner critic in our lives and that of our children by identifying the voice and the damage it can do overtime. In April 2021 I had to go into Ballarat city to meet someone, as I waited I decided to put the fireplace (electric log fire) on, snuggle up on my favourite chair and read Stephanie Dowrick's book " Forgiveness & other acts of love". I love her style of writing and her message of paying attention to the intention with the central theme of Self-care. So thought I would share and post self-care tips. Have an awesome weekend. It was treating a mental health patient that I realised the important role of Histamine on the brain and its connection to Gut health. Most of us associate high Histamine with hay fever, hives and a runny nose. Did you know that Histamine is naturally occurring in our body and food? Histamine is influenced by our Gut health, Immune system, Brain (affects neurotransmitters), Inflammation and of course foods high in histamine. Anti-histamines do fix the symptoms but if you want to treat the cause it is balancing digestive enzymes, boosting immune function and reducing inflammation. Some days writing these posts are more interesting than others, for this one it was incredible the research methodology used to identify some of these traits, for example, a study by UC Berkeley found that drivers of luxury cars were 4 times less likely to stop and allow pedestrians right of way (moral entitlement) and please don't get me started on unethical behaviour even using monopoly money. Lol Doing this piece also identified my own relationship with money, for those of you who know me; I was the financial controller of a multi-national company that gave up corporate Australia overnight when our pre-schooler child asked me to stay home. But whether it was running a multi-national company or my own small business I always felt a sense of gratitude or freedom when I paid my bills/ taxes etc. To some people that can be considered sad but to me, debt was never my friend. Personally, I think Money is a tool that can enslave you or empower you. Hope these tips help you towards financial health & well-being. Wow! Although expected, these COVID lockdowns always seem to catch me by surprise. What is the impact of these lockdowns on physical, psychological and social health such as relationships? Although I was trying to promote the need for us in lockdown to ensure our health and wellbeing needs are met, I couldn't help include the use of online Iridology readings. COVID-19 has accelerated our need for personalised health & wellbeing, the use of digital technologies and communications and for us to stay connected. Let’s embrace it! Be safe and this will pass........ Recently I have seen a spate of professionals either suffering from workplace burnout or on the verge of burning out. Feeling 'Wired, tired, anxious but lethargic? 'Restless and exhausted when stressed? 'Tired all day but cannot sleep at night or unrefreshed sleep? ' Overreacting to people, things and situations? Please hit the 'Pause' button, take time out for self-care, reflection, direction, peace and quiet to find the 'you and then hit the 'Reset' button. Research indicates that there are a platitude of benefits of participating in sports and exercise that benefit TEENS in multiple of ways such as physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual health. Simple steps in self-monitoring ensuring a well-balanced diet and hydration are the keys to long term health and wellbeing for our gorgeous TEENS who have different needs to adults for hydration, energy, diet and lifestyle. Reflection for adults....... Pre - Post training treating our kids to junk food and drinks. Use and abuse of alcohol in and around sport. What messages are we giving them around winning, losing and self care. Our kids are precious............. Without being a party pooper here, as a lot of us are enjoying the Olympics. (My hubby is sitting up at ungodly hours watching the Olympics). Just a timely reminder of the dangers of Relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S) which is a condition of low energy availability affecting male and female athletes of all levels and ages. It has wide-ranging adverse effects on all bodily systems and can seriously compromise long term health and performance. In the clinical presentation of this condition, there rarely is just 1 symptom most of these cases are complex such as compounding effects of fatigue, mood & hormonal disorders, digestive disorders and an inability to function. Take care and for those of us who are armchair athletes, we have nothing to worry about......... It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas! Great News, our teenager is safe back home from uni. Yippee! He arrived to a dining table of mess from my DIY projects. Ha! Lol. Most of the ingredients you should be able to source from your local supermarkets and garden. Lots of twigs and branches on the side of the road which can be used as Xmas trees, decorations or ………. When using fresh leaves, herbs or flowers use a day or 2 before needed. I will add a lot of fresh branches to my wreath days before Xmas. Please feel free to ask me for any herbs/flowers featured in the DIY I have plenty to give away Free from my garden. Including little branches to tie on gifts! Next week it's all about Beehives, flowers and honey………. In the last couple of weeks, I attended the government's compulsory Family Violence training (Multi- Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework - MARAM) focusing on multi-agency collaborative practice in responding to family violence. It is a complex subject but one of the key messages is to follow the lead of the victim-survivor. They know their circumstances best, especially when they make informed decisions. The best WE can do is provide information, support and resources in a non-judgemental manner. Be safe and have a great weekend. Happy Father’s Day to every dad out there. Most fathers are unaware and humble about the incredible role they play in their child's life. The question is ' Do you value and take care of yourself? Personally, I often have to watch and remind my hubby about his health and wellbeing. Especially during these prolonged covid times it is important to put MEN'S physical and psychological health as a priority. Have an amazing Father’s Day. ' The Hero Child' is a more common manifestation in clinical settings as most are adults who are high functioning, high achievers, with high anxiety and depression, who struggle with the triggers from the wounds of the inner child whom they fail to acknowledge. Forced to give up their childhood. The HERO child often has to adapt to the chaos and dysfunction in the family by becoming super-competent at everything— often to the point of parenting one or both parents and their siblings. Behind their facade of competence and strength, you will often find is a lonely frightened child who can find it difficult to maintain close trusting and healthy relationships. There is help out there to heal the inner HERO child. Recently during a consultation with a young child, we both decided to do some affirmations but found what we needed was the parent to reinforce the affirmations. So we did a few with child/parent affirmations and found they fit really well not only with the child but also with our 'Healing the lament of the inner child". Research indicates that a child's experiences and beliefs are stored deep in their subconscious mind and in later years shapes their actions, reactions and choices. Parents play a vital role in shaping these values and beliefs and defines how a child sees themselves and the world. Affirmations are a powerful tool. I am happy to share these with anyone wanting a copy, but I have also included a sample that you could make up with your child using your favourite photos. These are suitable for kids from around 3-10 years old. Let the child read the 1st statement and the parent reads the 2nd. Have fun.
Another lockdown. For those who are getting the covid vaccine. Here are some Natural Home remedies you can use to reduce any common side effects. You don't need any fancy stuff, keep it simple. Most of the symptoms are short lived and will pass. If in doubt or your symptoms worsen or persist, please seek medical advice. They are there to help you. Be safe, Rest, Relax and Rejuvenate. For a lot of us our medications are God-sent giving us relief and peace of mind. However, for those of us who have the unwanted side effects from our medication, it is a cycle of ups and downs. If you want help weaning your medication off you; there might be a natural way to do so in conjunction with your doctor or specialist. As always DO NOT come off your medication without consulting with your doctor or health care professional. One of the simple ways to change a day is by positive affirmations. So I have made up a stack of them for my lovely mums. Continuing our series to shine the torch on the role of mothers (parents) and 'the lament of the wounded child' to tie into the long term impacts of childhood trauma on innocent children who often continue to suffer as adults at the hands of the parent or siblings. Scapegoating is not limited to families, but often scapegoaters in families will move this SABOTAGE behaviour into their extended family, friends, their own children's lives, the workplace, schools, institutions constantly creating drama, conflict, grief and harm. Be safe and have an awesome week. Today I had to go into Ballarat city to meet someone, as I waited, I decided to put the fireplace (electric log fire) on, snuggle up on my favourite chair and read Stephanie Dowrick's book " Forgiveness & other acts of love". "A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path." - Agatha Christie Unfortunately, not all mothers share the above sentiments, some mothers can cause long term damage to their children called the 'mother's wound" extending into adulthood. Being a mother myself with 2 adult children this was a difficult piece to write, especially during these times where the role of women and mothers is centre stage with an increased awareness of what constitutes family violence and abuse and its impact especially on children. It is imperative that as mothers we take responsibility and be accountable by taking stock of how we are mothering our children including our adult children and if we need to do any work to "heal the inner child". Omg. Love this message. Brene Brown – The Man In The Arena Speech (edited). Recently attended a presentation on the covid vax and after removing all the technical stuff, I have condensed it for anyone wanting to know what they can do if they wanted to have the vaccine. My advice is whatever you choose, 'to have or not to have' the vax; embrace your choice, also if in doubt wait until you are clear about your choice. Our Men and boys are precious! So are the women and girls in our lives. It is brave men like Al who with their courage, resilience, vulnerability and strong family ties that shed light on the true experience of people with mental health. Mental health is often not a simple, single element, it is layered with a person's personality, childhood experiences, relationships, major life events and how they see and react to those events and experiences. When seeking help it is also important to find the right fit with your practitioner. Some practitioners don't suit all clients and some clients certainly don't suit some practitioners. You need to find your fit and shop around until you find the right person for you. Always go at your pace, what feels right for you as Al says "Mr Gabb now sees a counsellor in Ballarat, “who I speak to when I need a grease and oil change, is my phrase for it. I really got the benefits from finding the right practitioner”. |
